Marlynn Banta received her Masters’ degree from Loma Linda University and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is also a Certified Family Life Educator and received partial training as a Chaplain. She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and is a Registered Nurse. Marlynn is currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice at Loma Linda, with a specialty in Psychiatric care.
As a psychotherapist, Marlynn utilizes several modalities which include but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Therapy, Narrative, Gestalt and Strategic. Her thesis in graduate school was on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. However, Marlynn sees herself as an eclectic, pragmatic psychotherapist and meets patients where they are, effecting change. Marlynn works with individuals, couples and families. She also provides pre-marital and marital therapy. She prefers to recommend for
couples who might be contemplating marriage to come in for pre-engagement rather than pre-marital before the couple is committed for marriage. Marlynn is willing to provide Christian-based psychotherapy if desired. When needed Marlynn incorporates her medical knowledge into the therapy process to make recommendations for benefit of patients.
In addition to treating in private practice, she previously worked as a clinical therapist in the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health and is currently a contractor with the mental health oversight division of the California Department of Health Care Services.
